sebdickson
SPINERGY REV-X TUBULAR WHEELSET - £250 Want that Cipo look and to take your life into your own hands? Variously described as 'iconic' and also 'One of the top 5 worst cycling inventions' (by the same magazine) these are sure to set you apart - both because they have been banned by the UCI after a rabbit died in a CX race, and more literally that no sane person will cycle anywhere near you (ideal for making a breakaway?) But hey, you're still reading so you are clearly a maverick who is not put off by such quite frankly pedestrian concerns such as yours and others' safety, so what do they have going for them? a) they are really cool (see Cipo, above). b)These apparently test faster than the Specialized/Hed trispoke in tests carried out before I was born, and, having 4 pairs of carbon bladed spokes, they also have 166% more thwop than a trispoke as well. c) They will give people who whinge about the safety of disc brakes in a peloton some perspective on what danger really looks like. Both wheels are in fair condition, running pretty true and the brake tracks have plenty of life left in them. The rear has a tub on, the front doesn't but i'm willing to chuck one in or even tape it on if you ask nicely. The rear has an 8/9/10 speed shimano freehub but I have seen someone running one with an 11 speed cassette. I haven't done this because I genuinely have no desire to as I'm not mad. The rear has had some repairs (visible in some of the pictures) done but trust me you should have seen the other guy. I have actually ridden these (not least to a 10 mile PB) and can attest to their awesomeness. They haven't broken me or anyone else in that time. I believe arguing that as they haven't killed anyone in the last 20 years, they won't do so in the future is an example of a bayesian fallacy ,but who has got time for statistics. More seriously, given their age and their reputation you ride at your own risk and they are perhaps best as part of a retro build/ posing/ plea for help Bafflingly these seem to sell on ebay for way more than this, and as a skint recent graduate I need money to fund next years race entries. Johnny Arnold
Did you sell these puppies or end up shelving them away, only taking them out to scare neighbourhood kids who let their pet wabbits stray - baaahahahahahaa. No, seriously, still got 'em?
rob shed
I have a nice de-badged pair in obviously std. black/carbon with very decent 700 x 22 tubs on and a very good Ultegra 9 12-21 cassette. Spinergy factory serial numbers intact. Rear has the red super stiff hub with w/c bands. Front rubber is a Challenge Forte Road Open and rear is a Schwalbe Ultremo HT Raceguard (both have latex tubes). Trueness (side-to-side movement) is a normal ~1mm and bearings are fine/smooth. Currently nesting with period Campag Record skewers in excellent black/yellow writing Navigator padded wheelbags. The wheelset is in a tidy and sound condition and will grace any chosen bike build plus they sound like a whooshing bloody wind turbine over 25mph. £275 delivered anywhere in the UK
